Abstract

The Paper is concerned with the prehistory of the legal education in Slovakia before 1918, with the short history of the oldest medieval universities in the Kingdom of Hungary, but also with the legal education institutions in Slovakia since 17th century. With the rise of the modern period, the legal education was necessary to adjust, to focus it on practical skills and since 19th century also to educate in national language (Hungarian). From the point of view of legal science, the last decades before the disintegration of Austria-Hungary were well-dosposed, but from the point of view of Slovak national legal culture development, the institution educating in Slovak language was missing in Slovakia.
